After managing a job, kids–life in general–you desire and deserve an invigorating retreat. Save yourself $300 and avoid oiliness, aging, pimples and peeling, by giving yourself the spa treatment. At home, in about 10 minutes, you can have soft, smooth, spa-like skin… all with body scrubs.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!

An exfoliating body scrub cleanses your skin by buffing away dead skin cells. Most are made of small, rough grains in moisturizing bases. Body scrubs can easily be made with simple household items. Sugar and salt are the most common abrasives. For a moisturizing base, grab fruits: strawberries, mangos, coconut, and bananas. For every two cups of mashed fruit, add a tablespoon of sugar. For extra soothing power and shine, add a tablespoon of honey.

Apply body scrub in the shower after washing. Buff away dead skin cells using a circular motion, and pay extra attention to rough areas like elbows and knees. Let the body scrub linger for a few minutes so your skin absorbs the nutrients. Then rinse with lukewarm water, and gently pat your skin dry.

Body scrub solutions for different skin needs:

Get rid of dry, flaky skin

Caribbean therapy with essential salts, sugar, coconut and avocado oil. It exfoliates while the coconut nourishes for a smooth finish. Coconut is the best moisturizer. Aloe Vera and green tea extract protects sensitive skin.

Lighten those dark spots

To lighten dark spots mix: 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 egg white, and 1 tsp. of lemon juice.

Be cleansed and cheerful

Try Satsuma, a Japanese seedless fruit. Similar to an orange, it’s excellent for removing dead skin. Its citrus smell works like aroma therapy and heightens your senses.

Tone your skin

Good for all skin types, body scrubs with ice musk refreshes with a long-lasting aroma. Apple cider vinegar is a good toner, but dilute with water before applying to your face. Products with papaya and pineapple dissolve cells and lightens skin.

Just relax

Take yourself there and mix 1-cup of cornmeal, ½ cup coconut cream (moisturizing), ½ tsp orange essential oil (fragrance), and ½ tsp chamomile oil(calming).
